This will start with 'FM' and will be located on your original purchase receipt, or on the side of the product box. By combining the proven performance benefits of our ground-breaking DV+ with atmosphere venting, the VTA delivers an aggressive blow-off sound, improved throttle response and boost recovery, as well as superior boost holding and reliability in extreme conditions.The factory diverter valve found on these cars has two distinct issues reliability, and performance. Oh yeah, it also doesnt make any noise!Heres how the VTA addresses these problems.Reliability There are two ways in which the factory diverter valve can fail; the un-reinforced rubber diaphragm can rupture, and the metal valve stem that slides in the plastic cap can stick. In both cases, there is a risk to the turbocharger, as the ECU will attempt to compensate for a boost leak by increasing the wastegate duty cycle, which increases the turbo RPM significantly.The VTA features CNC machined billet components that last a lifetime and cannot be damaged by high boost pressures or the associated increased charge temperatures.Performance The factory diverter valve typically operates in only two states either fully open, or fully closed. When it opens at low boost, or during a partial throttle lift mid-corner, it causes increased lag and a noticeably non-linear boost transition, which is noticeable as a distinct step down in power as you roll off the throttle and the valve opens.The VTA however allows the piston to open and close progressively in response to the amount of boost pressure present, so it only vents enough air to prevent compressor surge (the primary purpose of a diverter or blow off valve). This helps to smooth out boost transitions, making the throttle response more linear and predictable, and also minimizes lag introduced by the factory diverter valve.Sound The VTA, as its name suggests, vents the air to atmosphere for maximum whoosh noise when you lift off the throttle. On the Focus RS, there is no MAF sensor and hence no drivability or fuelling issues when venting to atmosphere.

This easy-to-install replacement for the fragile plastic OEM blow-off valve offers improved turbo response and reduced compressor surge.The Dual Port is a 50-50 recirculation/vent-to-atmosphere valve for that classic vent-to-atmosphere sound at high boost, and quiet operation at low boost. The Kompact Shortie Blow-Off Valve for the Focus RS has been developed with the Focus high boost pressure in mind, with the goal to improve performance and durability. Plastic OEM blow-off valves like those on the RS have a track record of failures they leak, and they become brittle with age until they eventually crack, causing serious problems. Producing around 23 PSI of boost pressure in standard form, the Focus is already pushing the boundaries of its standard plastic blow-off valve and theres not much room to turn the boost up before the standard valve will struggle to keep up.Turbosmarts Kompact Shortie is constructed of billet aluminium, rather than plastic. Its brass piston is both strong and light, and each BOV is individually matched with the right piston to ensure the best fit, meaning theres no need for an O-ring to seal the body against the piston. This gives the Shortie unsurpassed durability and responsiveness, with less maintenance required than aftermarket BOVs that use piston sealing O-rings.The Kompact Shortie for the Focus RS can be had in both Dual Port and Plumb Back versions. The Plumb Back is a fully recirculating blow-off valve that offers a similar sound volume to the standard valve, so you can have all the performance of a Turbosmart blow-off valve, while flying under the radar. The Dual Port features a split operation between recirculating and venting to atmosphere, providing quiet operation at low boost, and head-turning vent-to-atmosphere sound at high boost a great complement to the Focuss rally fighter character. The Kompact Shortie for the Focus RS features enlarged ports compared to previous Shorties, giving the RS the flow it needs.These direct replacement blow-off valves offer an easy performance improvement without the need for custom fabrication or special tools. Its yet another addition to Turbosmarts ever expanding range of parts for Fords latest EcoBoost range of vehicles.
